FS Forbin is coming soon
Modern Warships welcomes the might of the land of the Gauls — the French frigate FS Forbin, a mobile citadel where superb maneuverability and impenetrable protection converge in a single hull to seize the initiative and shatter the enemy’s plans!
FS Forbin — a French frigate developed under the Italy–France "Horizon" programme. By NATO classification it is, in effect, a destroyer: fast, maneuverable, low-observable and fitted with modern electronics. The weapons fit combines standardized stations and specialised modules, while a well-thought-out layout together with powerful air-defence systems gives the ship a broad tactical role and the ability to dictate the terms of engagement to the enemy.

Armament :
- ASM Teseo MK2/E [3x1]
- ASM Teseo MK2/E [2x1]
- Cannon OTO Leonardo (127 mm) [2x1]
- Helicopter RAH-66 Comanche [1x1]
- Autocannon MU90 Hard Kill [1x1]🔒
- Autocannon Modele F2 (20 mm) [2x1]🔒
- Autocannon Narwhal (20 mm) [2x1]🔒
- Air Defence Sadral-F [3x1]🔒
- Air Defence Aster 15F EC [1x1]🔒
New additions:
MU90 Hard Kill — a French anti-torpedo system based on the MU90 Impact torpedo. It automatically detects hostile torpedoes and defeats them with a salvo of three counter-torpedoes at medium range.
Modele F2 (20 mm) — a French high-rate automatic cannon. It is effective against airborne and surface targets at close range, providing fire support and dense coverage of approaching threats.
Narwhal (20 mm) — a French automatic cannon designed to engage air and surface targets in the close-in zone with high accuracy. Using high-explosive rounds, it shows improved effectiveness against maneuvering targets.
Sadral-F — a French short-range anti-air module intended to protect the ship from aerial threats.
Aster 15F EC — a Franco-Italian medium/long-range air-defence variant capable of intercepting and destroying a wide spectrum of aerial targets at significant distances.

Characteristic features in combat
Pros:
- Excellent handling and mobility: the frigate is maneuverable and can perform a wide range of tasks — from sudden flanking attacks to rapid repositioning when the situation deteriorates.
- Concentrated forward artillery: both gun mounts are placed parallel in the forward half of the ship, increasing accuracy and effectiveness against targets in the forward hemisphere.
- High survivability: a combination of automated systems provides protection against air, surface and subsurface threats.
Cons:
- The arsenal consists only of missile batteries and guns. The notable absence of slots for anti-submarine means (such as ASW grenade launchers or torpedoes) limits anti-submarine capabilities and reduces flexibility when choosing a configuration.

The new French frigate clearly demonstrates that high survivability and maneuverability can be harmoniously combined in a single hull. Thanks to a wide array of multi-purpose automatic cannons and layered air-defence measures — both short- and long-range — the ship can withstand significantly denser massed attacks compared with its class peers, often matching destroyers and even some cruisers in resilience to incoming fire.
Play tactics for this ship most often boil down to active flanking manoeuvres, where speed allows seizing the initiative, or to operating in the thick of battle — shoulder to shoulder with destroyers and cruisers, supporting them with fire and cover. It is important to remember, however, that despite solid protection and excellent mobility, the ship’s Achilles’ heel remains a not-very-diverse offensive suite — missile batteries and main-calibre guns. Two sensible outfitting concepts follow from this: either fit weapons with fast reloads to overwhelm enemy defences with numerous simultaneous threats, or, conversely, assemble a heavier but slower-reloading loadout and fight from longer ranges — in calmer conditions where aimed gunfire has a higher chance of success and missiles can reach full speed and are more likely to penetrate the enemy’s air-defence umbrella.
FS Forbin will be an excellent acquisition for commanders who value a blend of maneuverability and thoughtful, tactically measured gameplay. New players will also find this unique ship appealing: the advanced multi-layered defensive complex aboard often forgives mistakes and offers an opportunity to recover during battle, turning each engagement into a clear lesson in sound management and timing of strikes.
