Update 0.109: Infernal Tide
October brings ricochets, a new port, Battle Pass rewards, and game optimizations to Modern Warships.
October brings ricochets, a Halloween port, a new Battle Pass, and game improvements to Modern Warships.
Main Update Highlights
⭐️ Expanded Ricochet System
The ricochet system has been expanded, making the mechanic deeper and more dependent on player actions. Ricochet probability now takes both the impact angle and weapon caliber into account: lighter projectiles ricochet more frequently, while heavier ones are less likely to do so.
Ricochets are impossible when a projectile strikes at a perpendicular or near-perpendicular angle. The closer the projectile trajectory is to a tangent relative to the target's surface, the higher the chance of a ricochet.
This gives ship positioning an additional tactical role. Pointing your bow toward the attacker or keeping your ship at a sharp angle can increase the chance of incoming shells ricocheting and potentially reduce damage from enemy gunfire.
When firing manually, the opposite principle applies: try to aim for areas where your shells will strike at a more direct angle. Targeting a ship's superstructure, for example, can help reduce the chance of your own projectiles ricocheting.
The new mechanic also gives greater importance to hull geometry. Modern warships with streamlined and angled designs can make better use of impact angles — reflecting the principles behind modern naval design.
New hit indicators:
- A yellow marker indicates a critical hit that deals increased damage.
- A red X indicates a ricochet that dealt no damage to the target.
- Ricochets are also displayed in the Damage Log.
Ricocheting projectiles no longer disappear after impact. A projectile loses 50% of its speed and damage, continues along its reflected trajectory, and can potentially hit another target.
New visual effects have been added, while ricochet sounds have been reworked and now differ depending on weapon caliber.
The mechanic applies to ballistic projectiles fired by ship and aircraft guns. Railguns, laser weapons, certain other special weapons, as well as ship-mounted autocannons and AA systems, are not affected by the ricochet mechanic.
🎃 Halloween Ports
A new Halloween-themed port is coming to Modern Warships. It will be available to all players for a limited period in October.
