JS Hyuga is coming soon

Coming soon to Modern Warships (MW) is the new Japanese aircraft carrier JS Hyuga, embodying the spirit of the samurai and the power of modern engineering!

JS Hyuga is a Japanese helicopter carrier, the lead ship of the class of the same name, built for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. It was the first full-fledged aircraft carrier launched in Japan after World War II, marking an important milestone in the development of the post-war Japanese navy. The Hyuga has a full displacement of about 19,000 tons and is equipped with a flight deck with a hangar designed to accommodate multi-purpose helicopters. The ship has advanced communications, control, and navigation systems, as well as short-range air defense systems. The Hyuga's design makes extensive use of modern technologies, including a modular construction principle and automated combat and technical control systems.

Let's take a closer look at it!

Armament:

1. Type 07 SUM missile battery [2x1]

2. Type 07 SUM missile battery [2x1]

3. Type 12 torpedo launcher (533 mm) [3x1]

4. RAD-20X drone [1x1]🔒

5. RAH-66 Comanche helicopter [2x1]

6. RAH-66 Comanche helicopter [2x1]

7. Sea RAM air defense [3x1]

8. RIM-162 ESSM-H air defense [2x1]🔒

Unlike other aircraft carriers, the JS Hyuga does not have slots for attack aircraft or fighters, having only a unique UAV and an impressive helicopter air group on board. This may initially show the ship in a less favorable light compared to its class counterparts. However, the lack of a classic air wing is more than compensated for by a set of offensive weapons, including a total of 4 slots for missile batteries and a triple slot with torpedoes, which is more than enough for a deadly and swift battle with an unlucky opponent. The ship's defense is provided by three Sea RAM air defense missile systems, as well as the RIM-162 ESSM-H silo-based air defense system, which has excellent characteristics in terms of reload time and damage dealt to protect against air targets at medium ranges. Returning to the runway, we find four RAH-66 Comanche helicopters capable of engaging any target with their versatile arsenal. However, the ship's main feature is the RAD-20X UAV. With the help of the most modern technologies and combat interaction systems, this drone can be used in a group of three units, which, due to the increased survivability of the entire group, allows at least one drone to survive active enemy air defense and return to its aircraft carrier for replenishment and repair.

What is the gaming experience like when using the new aircraft carrier?

Pros:

-High speed and maneuverability.

-A large number of missile batteries and torpedo launchers.

-Increased damage effectiveness from helicopters due to their number.

-Very large reserve of UAVs compared to similar ships.

Cons:

-Lack of classic attack and fighter aircraft.

-Low survivability of each drone in the squadron.

-Not the best air defense system for repelling massive missile and air attacks.

Overall, the gameplay on the JS Hyuga is significantly different from the usual image of a classic aircraft carrier. Instead of a full-fledged deck-based air wing with fighters and attack aircraft, it is supposed to use a strike group of four RAH-66 Comanche helicopters and an air wing with RAD-20X drones. Given the large number of missile batteries and torpedo tubes, the tactics of this ship can be described in just two words: breakthrough and mass. Although the ship does not have a large number of durability points and does not have the largest set of air defense weapons, this is greatly compensated by the fact that by simultaneously using the ship's strike weapons and launching helicopters with drones, you can often quickly break into the thick of battle and destroy one or even two enemies before the enemy team realizes what is happening and focuses their attention on you. It also makes sense to spend the first half of the battle behind your allies' backs, using four missile batteries and periodically attacking enemies with drones.

What's the bottom line?

The JS Hyuga is an aircraft carrier that breaks stereotypes. The lack of traditional attack aircraft is compensated for by an impressive array of missiles, torpedoes, and a strike helicopter group. And thanks to its unique UAV, the ship opens up opportunities for unconventional tactics: from pinpoint reconnaissance to massive drone attacks. All this makes the Japanese helicopter carrier a worthy choice for those looking for unconventional, flexible, and aggressive gameplay on aircraft carriers.
