JS 30DX is coming soon!
Modern Warships welcomes a new symbol of Japanese naval prowess—the JS 30DX frigate. Born at the intersection of tradition and cutting-edge technology, it combines the power of its artillery heritage with the rapid pace of missile duels. Maneuverable, swift, and reliable, this guardian of the seas will cover allies, repel air raids, and thwart threats from the depths. This ship is designed for those who value versatility and know that the sea serves only those who venture out onto it with courage.
The JS 30DX represents the evolution of Japan’s multirole frigate program, now oriented toward enhancing its export potential. The ship is equipped with a modern CODAG propulsion system and features a relatively small displacement, granting it impressive speed. Its compact dimensions, stealth-enhancing technologies, and flexible modular weapon architecture make this frigate a highly effective asset for frontline operations.

Exclusive Armament:
- Bofors 57/70 Mark 3 (57 mm) — a universal Swedish naval gun system designed to engage air and surface targets at short ranges. It features high rate of fire, excellent accuracy, and highly effective explosive ammunition.
- Type 12 Kai 2 — the second generation of Japanese anti-torpedo systems, capable of automatically intercepting enemy torpedoes and vessels at close distances.
- 23-Type A-SAM DX — a Japanese long-range anti-air missile system capable of destroying a wide variety of aerial targets. It boasts increased volley size and delivers area-of-effect damage.
Combat Characteristics & Recommendations:
- The Type 12 Kai 2 autocannon, unlike most comparable systems, can engage not only submarines but also surface ships, expanding its tactical versatility.
- The Bofors 57/70 Mark 3 (57 mm) guns are highly effective against incoming aircraft. However, their best performance is achieved when firing in short bursts — prolonged continuous fire increases spread and significantly reduces accuracy against aerial targets.
The new Japanese frigate combines the traditional strengths of past naval designs — including an extensive suite of artillery systems — with the demands of modern naval warfare, represented by a powerful missile battery capable of delivering a formidable salvo. This hybrid approach allows the ship to perform effectively across a wide range of combat scenarios.
The variety of tactical options offered by this frigate is impressive, yet its full potential is best revealed when operating alongside a sturdier allied vessel that draws the enemy’s main attention. If an opponent carelessly exposes themselves from cover, the frigate can immediately punish them with a concentrated missile strike. Should a hostile submarine attempt to slip into your rear, anti-submarine rocket launchers and autocannons will quickly halt its attack. And if enemy aircraft decide to focus on you, the standard air defense suite can be supplemented by manual control of the two Bofors 57/70 Mark 3 (57 mm) guns — with precise aiming, they can dismantle an entire squadron with ease.
So what kind of ship is this, and who will find it most suitable? The JS 30DX is a universal frigate that can refresh the gameplay experience for veteran captains while remaining accessible and comfortable for newcomers entering the world of naval combat. Its balanced mix of anti-submarine weapons, strong air defense, and excellent maneuverability allows it to forgive occasional mistakes in battle. Overall, it is difficult to imagine a situation to which this Japanese “newcomer” would not be ready to respond confidently.
