[0.95] Global Rebalance: Part IV
New changes to the Visibility System is here! This time we’re tweaking the Fire Penalty parameter.
New changes to the Visibility System is here! This time we’re tweaking the Fire Penalty parameter.
The lower this parameter, the lower the penalty for the player’s ship visibility, meaning that it will be less visible to the enemy when firing, and vice versa.
Let’s dive into the world of flares and stealth… and don't say you didn't see that coming!
Patch Notes: Fire Penalty Adjustments
We conducted a thorough analysis of current Fire Penalty parameters for all items in the game and made appropriate changes, supporting your claims about visibility and different visibility-related aspects.
Many items have received an increase in Fire Penalty, meaning that they will now impose a higher penalty on the player's ship visibility when firing, making the ship more detectable to enemies. We've made this decision to balance some powerful or commonly used weapons by increasing their visibility risk, encouraging players to use them more cautiously in their builds or lean towards them with big and slow vessels.
At the same time, many items have received a decrease in Fire Penalty, meaning that they will now provide a lower penalty on the player's ship visibility when firing, making the ship less detectable to enemies. This decision makes these items more attractive for players seeking maximum stealth in their builds, or just less detectable armament options, potentially shifting gameplay strategies toward these weapon types for your fast and stealthy vessels.
These changes encourage you to consider new builds and stealth tactics, including those favorite hit-and-run attacks, where you can engage enemies without significantly increasing detection risk. At the same time, high-impact or specialized ordnance weapons have their destructive potential aligned with increased visibility costs. This might prevent over-reliance on such weapons in some gameplay situations without consideration of significant stealth disadvantages.
Overall, all these adjustments across a broad choice of armaments encourage new tactical approaches, with you choosing your weapons based on your preferred balance of raw power and actual stealth.
MISSILES
Most missiles' launch is now more visible for enemies, while some others have received tweaks to their visibility parameters that were previously excessive for gameplay purposes. These changes will allow you to look at your classic builds from a different perspective.

CANNONS
Ship cannon fire is now much more noticeable... literally. The vast majority of cannons have had their firing penalties increased to minimize situations where you are being shot at with a cannon repeatedly, and you don't even know where it's coming from! Some cannons with excessively high firing penalties, on the contrary, have had this parameter reduced to even things out with other models of their type.

GRENADE LAUNCHERS
Most grenade launchers now have increased penalties for firing as well – it's kinda hard to miss giant blazing salvos that are flying towards your ship from that puny island, right? Well, now that is true in most cases! And some models of grenade launchers, which previously had their firing penalties as strict as some university teachers, now have those aligned with other armaments of this type.

TORPEDO LAUNCHERS
All torpedoes had their firing penalties adjusted, leaning towards situations, where submarine commanders will have to evaluate their current position and desire to fire while staying hidden. Stay cautions, submarines are still deadly when ignored or remain hidden – they just won't be that stealthy in some close-combat encounters!

AUTOCANNONS
Autocannons received a comprehensive firing penalty revamp, making each of the available model unique in its own way. Now you can either grab something more flashy or lean towards a more stealthy option, yet the differences are not that drastic, so no worries about your favorite shooting buzzers!

AIR DEFENSE (CANNONS & LASERS)
Air Defense systems (those mixed options, cannons and lasers) have their firing penalties fixed based on their composition and type – for instance, some smaller systems are now more stealthy, whereas things like flocks of rockets or your local-sea laser show are more noticeable – as they should be.

AIRCRAFT CANNONS
Aircraft cannons had their firing penalties lowered for some models. While "big guys" on the surface are shooting each other with flashy salvos and other cool stuff, they probably won't notice your aerial cannon. At least not right away...

AIRCRAFT MISSILES
Many aircraft missiles are now less noticeable in most situations (yet not all of them, alas – some got more noticeable) – which is some good news for aircraft lovers out there. However, don't overestimate your stealth capabilities – enemies still have radars, binoculars and eyes, so you'll have to be tactical about your aerial attacks – just as before.

AIRCRAFT BOMBS
Most aircraft bombs have become more easily noticed, making aircraft-launched presents more visible to enemy ships when fired from above. As a result, deploying bombs now carries a higher risk of alerting opponents to your presence, encouraging bombers (both the plane type and the players!) to use them more strategically.
