FGS Tirpitz is coming soon!
Very soon, Modern Warships will welcome a guest from the past—the German battleship FGS Tirpitz. After undergoing extensive modernization, it has combined the power of the past with the technology of the future to compete for the title of the absolute terror of the seas!
Wilhelmshaven, born from the salty spray of the North Sea as a stronghold of the German Navy, became the cradle of some of the greatest steel giants ever launched from a shipyard. Within the silence of its docks, immense naval power was forged—its formidable legacy still echoing through the chronicles of history’s greatest sea battles. It was here that the story of our guest today first began.
Historical Background
FGS Tirpitz, nicknamed the "Lonely Queen of the North," spent most of World War II not in open combat, but concealed within the Norwegian fjords. Its very presence became a constant headache for the Allies: merely remaining operational forced the British fleet to keep vast naval forces on high alert to prevent a breakout into the Atlantic. This remarkably resilient giant survived a series of midget submarine attacks and numerous air raids, absorbing enormous enemy resources before finally being destroyed by heavy Tallboy bombs in late 1944.
To enhance the combat effectiveness and survivability of the legendary battleship FGS Tirpitz in modern naval warfare, our engineers carried out an extensive in-game modernization program. The ship was equipped with advanced missile systems for long-range fire support, effective anti-submarine rocket launchers, and a fully upgraded layered air-defense network, significantly expanding its tactical capabilities on the battlefield.
In addition to its offensive weaponry, the propulsion systems, electronics, and hull materials were replaced, while the outdated seaplanes gave way to a helicopter landing pad for reconnaissance missions. As a result of these comprehensive upgrades, Tirpitz was transformed from a historical icon into a modern multi-role warship, fully prepared to meet the challenges of contemporary naval combat.
Gameplay
FGS Tirpitz features one of the most versatile weapon configurations in its class. While its main battery is similar to that of its sister ship, FGS Bismarck, the two vessels differ significantly in design. Tirpitz's primary advantage lies in its torpedo launchers armed with unique DM2AT torpedoes. Thanks to their excellent performance characteristics and advanced target-tracking sensors, evading these torpedoes is extremely difficult. They pose a serious threat to both surface ships and submarines alike.
The battleship's greatest strength is its artillery. Although its main battery is identical to that of its aforementioned counterpart, the secondary SK C/37 guns outperform those mounted on FGS Bismarck. Not only are they superior in performance, but they are also capable of engaging enemy aircraft.
The ship's defensive capabilities are equally impressive. With a total of five air-defense slots and four autocannon slots, players can tailor its protection to their preferences, further enhanced by the unique Sea Blade gun systems.
As for tactics, Tirpitz is a classic battleship designed for frontline engagements. This is where its entire arsenal can be utilized to maximum effect. While flanking maneuvers and long-range sniper-style gameplay are certainly possible, the ship truly excels in close-range combat, just like any other battleship of its class.
